Julep Maven: Classic With A Twist - September 2012

September 8, 2012

I had an itching to buy some more nail polish, thankfully my Julep box scratched that itch! Julep is a monthly nail polish subscription service based out of Seattle that is available to American & Canadian residents. Each box is $19.99 a month. If you are not signed up there are many coupon codes out there (that will be listed at the end) for your first box.

Every month on the 20th we "Mavens" are sent photos of the different boxes to choose from for the month. Julep collaborated with fashion designer Trina Turk this month and the colours chosen were fantastic! I loved the neutral tones Classic With A Twist offered this month as well as the Volumizing Mascara!
This box came with a magnetic as  bonus.
Sophie: "Chic truffle mushroom creme"
Brandt:  "Opaque off-black creme"
Two coats with a top coat on top.
I found the consistency of these polishes different than usual. More liquid-y and I really enjoyed that! I find Julep polishes to get gloopy and thick after a while.
For someone with VERY short nails, I didn't have any trouble applying these polishes.
Description: "Lash growth enhancement ingredients and micro-fiber applicator separates, conditions, and plumps individual lashes for a thick and gorgeous finish."
This mascara is in the colour "Jet Black" but in person and this photo it has a bit of a blue tinge I find.
The design of the tube is amazing and very sleek. The design of the brush is very intriguing and I can definitely see how it would work. That being said, the opening on the tube does not take enough product off the brush.
In the video you can see a lot of excess product all over the wand and brush. When filming that part I noticed that it looked like little mini eyelashes all over the wand and tube in the product. I am assuming that is the fibers.
Here is the mascara on. I curled my lashes once before applying. It held the curl for a while. This was the first ever application of the product and before the excess was left throughout the tube and wand.
I like the definition it gives. It is a more wet formula than I am used to but it seemed to hold my curl quite well. This is by no means a dramatic mascara, without any eyeliner it would probably look quite natural.
From my first impression I can say I enjoy the mascara so far. I will post on update about the excess product and if wiping it off works out!
Overall, I'm very happy with this box. I love the colours and I think they will be great for fall.
